Celebrate Earth Month with ButcherBox
Our Commitment to the Seas
This Earth Month, we are celebrating our mission to help you eat better, and a big part of that is how we get our seafood. While we provide delicious and high-quality seafood, we also make sure we're supporting healthy marine populations and ocean sustainability. Our partners care just as much about protecting ocean life and follow strict fishing practices, so you can trust the seafood on your plate.

Seafood You Can Trust
Our fish are sustainably harvested to protect the long-term overall health of species populations and their ecosystems. Our sourcing partners follow strict fishing and handling practices that meet the standards of the Marine Steward Council (MSC) or the Responsible Fisheries Management (RFM) to guarantee high quality and sustainability.
Our Alaskan Sockeye Salmon is wild-caught in Bristol Bay, Alaska, and is RFM Certified.
Our Cod, Halibut, and Sablefish are wild-caught and sustainably harvested in the pristine waters of the Gulf of Alaska and the Bering Sea and are RFM Certified.
Our Atlantic Salmon is responsibly farmed in Norway, never given antibiotics or added hormones, and has no artificial coloring or additives.
Our Scallops are caught in the cold water of Georges Bank, landed in New Bedford, Massachusetts, and are MSC Certified. Learn more here.

Protecting Bristol Bay
For more than a decade, the waters of Bristol Bay, Alaska – where we source our salmon – have been under the threat of proposed mining activity that would effectively destroy the ecosystem. ButcherBox has been one of many parties, led by Indigenous peoples, fishermen, businesses, and activists from the Bristol Bay region, that have spoken out against the proposed mining activity. One group that has organized these collective voices in support of the Bristol Bay ecosystem is Trout Unlimited, a U.S. non-profit dedicated to the conservation of freshwater streams, rivers, and associated upland habitats for trout, salmon, other aquatic species, and people. We've supported this advocacy through:
Making charitable contributions to Trout Unlimited
Signing on to open letters and petitions
Sharing calls to action on our social media platforms to submit comments to the EPA
Creating a video documentary to help raise awareness
In late January 2023, the EPA released a final determination under the Clean Water Act restricting the proposed mining activity in Bristol Bay. While this is a major win, the Bristol Bay ecosystem is still under threat, including several recent lawsuits. We continue to support ongoing advocacy for a more permanent solution.
